"Especially for the spring season and Easter, the Bohemia Regent brewery is preparing a green lager brewed according to a traditional recipe with the addition of a patera of various herbs and a Czech green treasure - Třeboň Chlorella from the local Microbiology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Green Easter Beer has become a popular tradition in the Czech Republic.
Deeply rooted in the culture of Central Europe, especially in Bohemia. Back in the day, saying farewell to winter and welcoming summer was a big deal in the deep, frozen forests of Central European Bohemia. People marked the change of seasons by switching from dark beer to something paler—originally wheat beer. Over time, this tradition became even more symbolic, with people actually drinking green beer—the color of spring!
Interestingly enough, young people in the modern-day Czech Republic have come to associate green beer with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, enjoying a “green” lager instead of (or alongside) the classic stout. So we might be the only country in the world where people celebrate St. Paddy’s not just with stouts, but also with green lagers—and feel totally at home doing it.
Now, the big question is “Will I get sick drinking this green lager?“
Short answer: No, of course not.
That said, some of the big-name (unnamed 😉) corporate breweries may use artificial dyes. While those won’t poison you, they’re not exactly doing your body any favors either. Luckily, most independent brewers stick to traditional methods and use only natural ingredients—like algae—to achieve that beautiful green color. That’s exactly the case with our Bohemia Regent Green Lager. It’s a truly artisanal product, brewed over 180 days using decoction methods and long lagering in 450-year-old cellars. This brewery has been continuously brewing on the same site since 1379!"
